Since forming RJLC, major clients include LANGUISTICS, San Diego Daily Transcript, The Poway Chamber of Commerce and The San Diego Public Law Library. 

Projects included research on product development and presentations for LANGUISTICS; Web site management for The Daily Transcript/ San Diego Source  meeting facilitation and branding for The Poway Chamber of Commerce; and a an operational review for the San Diego County Public Law Library.

LANGUISTICS-San Diego, CA                        2001-2002

LANGUISTICS focused on developing Natural Language Processing technologies and products based on these technologies.

Selected Accomplishments

  • Developed and wrote corporate business plan that resulted in increased funding from original investors.
  • Researched competitive positioning and identified potential markets that warranted product development. Wrote the Market Requirements Document for five products based on company technologies.
  • Created market positioning, presentations, demos and corporate Web site that attracted attention to the technology and ultimately led to its sale.
  • Company spokesperson, managed analyst relations and developed bulletin about technology from IDC and major article in trade press about product.

    Bidland Systems-San Diego, CA                     2000-2001

    Bidland Systems was an application system provider (ASP) for companies who wanted to auction excess inventory or products on the Web.

  • Handled crisis public relations during reduction in force and major law suit in such a way that the company was seen in a positive light.
  • Obtained articles for the company in the local, national and international media.
  • Developed regular newsletter for clients with information about products and company news.
  • Managed major redesign of Web site, content and graphics, finished project in two months-on time and on budget.
  • Worked closely with VP, Business Development to negotiate contract terms on several major contracts.

  • Managed outside advertising and public relations agency interfaces and budgets.

    The boxLot Company-San Diego, CA                 1999-2000

    The boxLot Company created an auction site and technology for collectors who wanted to sell items on the Web.

  • Created community features and benefits for collectors to use on the Web site-developed regular promotions and content around some 25 areas of collectibles.
  • Developed a regular weekly newsletter for registered buyers and sellers that went to over 50,000 subscribers.
  • Worked out procedures for maintaining and managing changing content on the site.

  • Managed graphics and HTML team of four.
  • Interfaced with the software engineers to develop Web-based tools in order to manage content on the site more easily.
  • Managed relations with outside content providers such as About.com, Stamp sites, collecting publications and freelance writers.

    Computer Economics, Inc. is a research and consulting firm that provides information about computer and software pricing as well as Internet commerce issues and trends.

  • Developed successful electronic information products based on company's primary research products. Responsible for Web site, marketing and sales process and reporting results. Products grossed a million dollars in sales during first year in the market.
  • Managed profit and loss and cash flow of company, taking it from negative position to positive cash position in a year.
  • Managed newsletter publication division with two strong products. Division grossed over a million dollars both years it was under my management.

    Responsibilities
  • Supervised Web development and IT team.
  • Managed circulation system and customer service for 15 publications.
  • Managed sales team-responsible for increasing sales results.
  • Developed and managed direct marketing efforts, outside agencies and fulfillment companies.

    Marketing Plus-San Diego, CA                              1992-1995

    Marketing Plus was a consulting firm handling general marketing and direct marketing projects for a variety of clients in San Diego.

  • Cost-control project for a publisher that resulted in major savings in costs on a 120-page catalog.
  • Strategic and marketing research for a winery that resulted in marketing plan still being followed today.

  • Marketing plan and launch of new business for personnel firm. Firm used advertising campaign to become profitable in a very short period of time.
  • Direct mail campaigns, newsletters, advertising campaigns for several different clients.

    Santa Monica Bay Printing & Publishing Company,  Los Angeles
                                                                                        1982-1992


    Santa Monica Bay Printing & Publishing Company published micro-regional magazines for West Los Angeles and San Diego. LA WEST Magazine and Ranch & Coast Magazine were monthly publications containing calendars of events, local profiles, travel and other information tailored to the residents of their circulation areas. Both publications were advertising supported.
